The Age of Consequences movie screening at #MISYCS
We’re excited to announce that we have received the rights to show the film, The Age of Consequences, the evening before the MIS Youth Climate Summit take place. The screening will take place on Friday, November 24 at 6 pm in the LADC auditorium. All attendees and the entire MIS community are welcome to attend. However, please note that this film covers war and conflict situations. While it is not rated, the MISYCS planning team does not believe it is appropriate for students younger than 13. Details on how to get your ticket will be posted in the MIS Bulletin two weeks before the event.
The Hurt Locker meets An Inconvenient Truth, THE AGE OF CONSEQUENCES investigates the impacts of climate change, resource scarcity, migration, and conflict through the lens of US national security and global stability. Whether a long-term vulnerability or sudden shock, the film unpacks how water and food shortages, extreme weather, drought, and sea-level rise function as accelerants of instability and catalysts for conflict. Left unchecked, these threats and risks will continue to grow in scale and frequency, with grave implications for peace and security in the 21st century.
The pressures caused by climate change will infuence resource competition while placing additional burdens on economies, societies, and governance institutions around the world. These efects are threat multipliers that will aggravate stressors abroad such as poverty, environmental degradation, political instability, and social tensions – conditions that can enable terrorist activity and other forms of violence. -Department of Defense, “The Quadrennial Defense Review Report” 2014
